Check with your pediatrician. Night-weaning this early isn't appropriate for many babies, especially breastfed ones. Talk with your pediatrician before starting.
Overview
Suzy Giordano, known as the Baby Coach, developed her approach working with families of twins and triplets. Singleton babies start at about 4 weeks if they weigh at least 9 pounds and take at least 24 ounces a day. Baby feeds every 4 hours, four times across a 12-hour day, while night feeds are gradually shortened and dropped.
Naps are structured to about 3 hours of daytime sleep, and baby goes down awake with brief comforting. The goal is 12 hours of night sleep by 12 weeks old. Early night weaning isn't right for many babies, especially breastfed ones.
How it works
- Feed every 4 hours — 4 daytime feeds across a 12-hour day.
- Gradually shorten and eliminate night feeds.
- Structure naps (~3 hours of daytime sleep).
- Put baby down awake with brief comforting.
Pros
- Clear targets
- Designed for multiples
- Short read
Cons
- Early night-weaning isn't right for many babies, especially breastfed ones
